CORPORATE CULTURE
What if you owned a house that was built on 4 poles and a 1 inch
piece of wood? The house would stand and you would be able to
live it in, but situations would occur that would put stress on the
wood and poles increasing the likelihood of weakening its stability.
How much time would you be spending focused on fixing the
strength of the foundation? You may fix the problem for the
short-term, but the overall strength of the foundation would never
gain the depth needed to hold the house over a long period of time -
especially if you wanted to make the house bigger!
Now take this analogy to your business. The foundation of your
company is your corporate culture - the mission, vision and values.
How strong is your corporate culture? Has it been defined in writing? How often is it communicated to your staff? How do the leaders of your business model it, and how often? How do your business strategies support your corporate culture? These criteria speak to the strength and depth of your foundation. If it is not defined in writing, not regularly communicated, not modeled by the leaders and not supported by strategies, it is no stronger than 4 poles and 1 inch piece of wood.
A strong corporate culture has been proven to increase staff engagement, increase client satisfaction and impact profitability. Companies like West Jet and Starbucks attribute their success to their strong corporate culture. Your corporate culture can make you stand out from your competition.
